Our garage door stopped working, so I called Overhead Door for a repair. The technician was in my house for less than two minutes. He looked at the unit for all of two seconds and immediately claimed we needed a brand-new opener. He did zero physical troubleshooting and didn't even get on a stepladder to inspect the motor or the gears. Only after writing it off did he look at the date sticker to see how old it was.
Despite doing absolutely nothing, they charged my card $193.80 ($170/hr plus tax) for a literal one-minute visit with zero effort.
I called a highly-rated local competitor for a second opinion. After reviewing pictures of the unit, they immediately confirmed it looked repairable. They gave me a much more reasonable rate ($120/hr), and even offered to bring a backup unit and install it the same day just in case it truly is dead—saving me a second trip fee. They came out, did a thorough inspection, and successfully repaired and re-balanced the door without needing a new unit at all.
UPDATE: Following this review, management (Dave) reached out to me directly. They reviewed my experience, completely agreed that the technician provided zero service for the fee, and issued a full credit back to my card. While the initial service call was incredibly frustrating, I deeply appreciate the company taking accountability and making things right.
